Funeral services for Wendell Switzer age 80 of Clearwater were at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Full Gospel (Assembly of God) Church in Ewing with Pastor Wayne Smith officiating. Burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery with military rites provided by Am. Legion Post #267 of Clearwater. Pall bearers were Matt Steffl, Chad Switzer, Travis Baker, Brian Switzer, Trevor Switzer, Josiah Switzer, Scott Grey, Justin Grey, and Shannon Rieter. Honorary Bearers were Walt Miller, Leo Miller, Fred Nolze, Jim Wiegand, Bill Woslager, Steve Miller, Wayne Fry, Mike Robbins, Marty Robbins, Gerry Olmsted and Jerry Switzer. Music was provided by Nancy Harpster, organist and Kevin Fry soloist. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater. He died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at the Goldenliving Center in Neligh. Wendell Thomas Switzer, Sr. was born May 20, 1926 at rural Ewing the son of Ora and Winifred (Butler) Switzer. He grew up and attended Riverside country school of rural Ewing and Graduated from Ewing High School in 1943. Wendell was inducted into the United States Navy on November 23, 1944 at Kansas City, Missouri and was honorably discharged from the Navy on July 8, 1946 at St. Louis, Missouri. He then returned to Ewing and on March 16, 1947 at the Church of Christ at Neligh he was united in marriage to Ruth Jean Olmsted. The couple made their home on a farm northwest of Clearwater where he raised cattle and hogs. Ruth passed away February 10, 1992 at Omaha, Ne. In 2003 Wendell became a resident of the Willows in Neligh before moving to the Goldenliving Center in Neligh. Wendell was a member of American Legion Post #267 of Clearwater. He was an avid singer and sang in a Quartet that sang for many funerals and special events. He was an avid Nebraska football fan, and loved his family. Survivors include his children: Sherry and husband Tim Steffl of Neligh, Tom and wife Brenda Switzer of Clearwater, Janet Baker of Neligh, Cindy and husband Tony Brown of Norfolk, Randy and wife Jill Switzer of Ewing, and Jeff Switzer of Clearwater. 18 grandchildren and 27 Great-grandchildren. A sister Shirley Miller of Ewing. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother Darroll Switzer, and a Sister Deyn Robbins.
