Victor Paul Funk

Victor Paul Funk Ewing---Funeral services for Victor P. Funk, age 87 of Ewing, will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2008 at St. John�s Catholic Church in rural Clearwater with Father Bill Safranek officiating. Burial will be in the St. Patrick�s Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be provided by Sanders American Legion Post #214 of Ewing. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2008 with a 7:30 p.m. Scripture Service at the church. Victor passed away Monday, April 7, 2007 in Omaha. Snider Memorial Funeral Home of Clearwater is conducting the services. Victor Paul Funk was born March 21, 1921 on the family farm south of Ewing, the son of Paul and Rose (Burk) Funk. He graduated from Ewing High School in 1942 and served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945. In December of 1944 he was presented the Distinguished Service Cross, the second highest honor awarded by the Army, for action at Meijel, Holland in October of 1944. After the war, Victor returned to the family farm until after his parents� death in 1963. He worked for Omaha Heavy Construction from 1968 to 1980 and later moved back to the St. John�s area. He was a member of St. John�s Catholic Church, rural Clearwater. He is survived by his brother Arthur Funk of Battle Ground, WA; a sister, Helen VanWey of San Diego, CA; sisters-in-law Rita Funk and Georgine Funk, brother-in-law Joe Knievel and his wife Lucy, and 40 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sisters: Theresa Knievel and Rose Pofahl, brothers: Edward Funk and Joseph Funk, brothers-in-law Darrell VanWey and Max Pofahl, and sister-in-law Eileen Funk.
