Celebration of life for Steven D. Miller age 62 of Austin, TX were 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater with Rev. David Worthen, Officiating. Burial was in Ewing City Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers were Aaron Miller, Ethan Miller, Chris Denney, Adam Denney, Brandon Denney, and Derek Funk. Steve passed away on Monday, May 21, 2012 at Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, Nebraska. Steven D. Miller, son of Leo and Shirley (Switzer) Miller, was born November 30, 1949, in Ewing, NE. In his youth, Steve was raised on the family farm and attended Riverside County School. He graduated from Ewing High School. Steve received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Sterling College, Sterling, KS. He received his Masters of Psychology from East Michigan University, Ann Arbor, MI.

Steve began his teaching career in Austin, TX. He spent the majority of his teaching years at the Clifton Career Development School in Austin. Steve was instrumental in developing the Clifton Horticulture Program. He devoted over 35 years helping prepare students with disabilities to be productive, contributing citizens in a multi-cultural society and to live as independently as possible. Steve had a passion for writing, preserving nature, genealogy, plants and reading. His biggest and proudest accomplishments are his two sons Aaron and Ethan. Steve returned to Nebraska in March and resided at the Community Pride Care Center in Battle Creek, where he received excellent care. Survivors include his parents Leo and Shirley Miller of Ewing, NE; his sons Aaron and Ethan Miller of Austin, TX; four sisters Joanie (David) Worthen of Marion, OH, Becky (Loren) Johnson of Omaha, NE, Ellen (Doug) Denney of Norfolk, NE, and Melanie (Frank) Funk of Ewing, NE; as well as four nephews, eight nieces, and five great nieces. He was preceded in death by niece Ashley Hagler, Grandparents Howard and Vera Miller and Ora and Winifred Switzer.
