Funeral Service for Sara E. Twiss age 94 of Verdigre formally of Clearwater, NE will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater, NE. Visitation will be 1 hour before service. Burial will be in Clearwater Cemetery. Sara passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Apline Village in Verdigre, NE. Snider Memorial Funeral Home are handling the arrangements. Sara Ethel Alderson Twiss was born on December 16, 1920 to Esther (Durkee) and John Alderson at Alexandria, SD. She attended elementary school in SD. Her family moved to Nebraska in 1934. She graduated from Orchard High School with the class of 1938. She attended Normal Training at Ewing High School and graduated in 1940. She taught country school for several years. Sara married Wallace Twiss on August 2, 1941 at Stanton, NE. They lived in Grant and Norfolk, NE before moving a farm west of Clearwater. They moved to Clearwater after a few years. Their son, Richard was born in May of 1945. Sara started working at the Bank in Clearwater after Richard started school. Later she worked as secretary in the County Superintendents Office for several years until her retirement. Sara was active in the Clearwater United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women's group. Her hobbies were bowling, sewing, crochet and craft work. She and Wally belonged to the Weekend Wanderers Camping Club and enjoyed camping with friends and spent many winters in Texas or Arizona.
Her son Richard passed away in 1992. Sara moved to Willows Assisted Living in March of 2007. Wally passed away in April of 2008. In Sept. of that year Sara moved to the Alpine Village Retirement Center in Verdigre, Nebraska where she spent the remainder of her life.
Survived by sister-in-laws, Melpha Hiser of Kearney, NE and Charlene Lange of Clearwater, NE. Two special Nieces, Sharon Wilkinson and Jenelle Erb. Numerous Nieces and nephews and family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, husband, and her son, Richard. Sister, Velma Knapp and brother, S. R. Alderson.
