Ruth Ann Shrader

Funeral Services for Ruth Ann Shrader, age 91, of Neligh, will be Monday, December 14, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Neligh with Pastor Janet Davis will officiating. Burial will be at Ewing City Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by Sanders American Legion Post from Ewing. Visitation will be Sunday, Dec 13, 2015 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beyer-Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh. Ruth Ann died Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at home in Neligh. Ruth Ann (Waples) Shrader, was born to Ivan L. Waples, Sr and Ruth (Bennett) Waples on April 13, 1924 at Glidden, Iowa. She spent part of her childhood on a farm outside of Ewing, NE. The family moved to Lincoln, NE where she graduated from University High in Lincoln, NE in 1942. She attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln from 1942 to 1943. She served in the United States Army during World War II, beginning in 1944 and was honorably discharged in 1948. She reached the rank of Technical Sargent and was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone and the Pentagon. While at the Pentagon she served under General Eisenhower's command, and knew WWII was over before it was made public. During this time she also marched in President Roosevelt's funeral parade. On April 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert Wayne Shrader. They resided on a farm near Ewing and in Ewing. In 1965 they moved to Neligh where she currently resided. She was a member of the Neligh VFW, the Ewing American Legion, and the Antelope Country Club. She is also a member of the 1st Congregational United Church of Christ in Neligh. During her time in Neligh she became an avid bowler, competing in and winning several tournaments. She also enjoyed golfing at the Antelope Country Club until she was no longer able to do so. Ruth Ann is survived by her children, David (Mary) Shrader of Fremont, Rachel Shrader of Neligh, John (Tina) Shrader of Long Beach, CA, and Ruth McIlravy of York; grandchildren Kristen (Rob) Miles of Lincoln, NE, Sara (Will) Kellogg of Fremont, NE, Staci (Ryan) Wolf of Papillion, NE, Ben (Anna) Shrader of Chicago, IL, Allison (Damien) Holzapfel of San Jose, CA, Amanda (Adam) Steiger of York, NE, Richard (Kaylee) McIlravy of York, NE, William McIlravy of Lincoln and special friend Natasha, and Matthew Shrader of Fremont; great-grand children Lance, Madison, Brayden, Jaxson, Charlie, Kennedy, Jordan, Aiden, Olivia, Korbin, Korie, sisters Pauline (Don) Walcott of Weed, CA and Judith (Dave) McCalla of Waverly, NE. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne, infant son Mark, sisters Marilyn Sumpter, Josephine Burkhart, and brother Ivan (Bud) Waples, Jr.
