Roland L. Herley of Lincoln, NE passed away on June 5, 2013 following a brief illness. He was the only son of Lowell and Esther (Wegner) Herley, long time residents of Clearwater, NE. Roland was born on October 2, 1938 in Ewing NE, at the home of his maternal grandparents, Henry and Bertha Wegner. He was a paper carrier for the Omaha World Herald in his teen years and earned a $1000 school scholarship for excellence in his job. He attended Clearwater School and was chosen to be a delegate to Cornhusker Boys State in his Junior year. He was active in choral music and band which was directed by Leonard Sawyer. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class in 1956. He attended UNL from 1957 - 1961 graduating with a BA degree while in college he participated in ROTC and served 6 yrs in the National Guard following graduation. He helped pay his way through college by working at Rosewell Florist and Medcalf Funeral Home. He attended Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, IL where he obtained his morticians license and continued working at Medcalfs for another 10 years. He changed occupations and was employed by Jerry Grenemeier as Lab Manager at the Film Shop in Lincoln for 14 years followed by employment at the Photo Shop for 18 years. Roland's love of gardening and flowers combined with his creative natural talent gave him the ability to create beautiful wreaths, bouquets, and centerpieces. He is survived by a sister, Dianne E. Kent and her husband Denton, of Bentonville, AR. One nephew, Scott D Kent of Waukesha WI; one niece, Holly D. Kent of Bentonville AR; and 2 grand nephews, Alexander & Mitchell Kent of Waukesha, WI. A visitation was held at Snider Memorial Funeral Home on June 10, 2013 in Clearwater. No service were held. Burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery.
