Funeral Services for Lyle Spencer, age 84 of Neligh, NE were 10:30 am, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Neligh with Pastor Janet Davis, Officiating. Music was provided by Lynda Puls, Organist and Duaine Christiansen, Soloist. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Smith, Dean Smith, Terry Smith, Craig Smith, Joshua Ames, Matthew Ames, and Auti Donelson. Honorary Pallbearers were Ira Donelson, Verlon Furstenau, Claus "Bud" Knuth, Tim Knuth, and Doug Martindale, Galen Furstenau. Visitation was 4 - 7 pm, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Beyer-Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh, Ne. Mr. Spencer passed away on October 7, 2012 at Antelope Memorial Hospital, Neligh, NE, after many years of battling Parkinson's. Lyle Lenord Spencer was born September 24, 1928 to Carl C. Spencer and Leota F. (Kirk) Spencer in Neligh, NE. He attended both the Rural School District 67 in Clearwater and Neligh High School in Neligh, NE. On July 22, 1950, Lyle married Violet Ann Tews in Norfolk, NE. Because of his love of farming, Lyle helped his father on the farm until he began working for B Line Construction. He worked 32 years for the propane company which changed ownership over the years. He dedicated himself by serving the customers with care and kindness throughout the many buy-outs. Company names included: CyGas, Norgas, Northern Propane, and Enron. In 1984, Lyle began working for the Antelope County Department of Roads. He enjoyed this job very much and retired after 10 years in 1994. Lyle also volunteered at the Laurel Hill Cemetery for 10 years where he took pride in maintaining the grounds and the road. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Neligh his entire life. Lyle is survived by his wife Violet, of 62 years; sister, Marjorie Smith of Neligh; daughters, Sherrie (Charles) Ames of Lincoln; Judy (Steven) Martindale of Lincoln; and Debra Donelson of Upper Lake, CA; seven grand children: Joshua (Ann) Ames, Matthew (Laura) Ames, Carlie (Lee) Froemke, Laura (Armstrong) Martindale-Tingwane, Douglas Martindale, Ira Donelson, Autumn Donelson; and seven great grandchilden: Madelyn Ames; Xavier, Grady, and Ellery Ames; Dylan and Macayla Donelson; Wesley Froemke; and several nieces and nephews. Lyle is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Spencer; brother, Dale Spencer; son-in-law, David Donelson.
