Funeral Services for Lorraine Hemenway age 84 of Clearwater were 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2011 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater with Pastor Carroll Plisek, Officiating. Music was provided by Bob & Rita Kester. Burial was in the Clearwater City Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 267 of Clearwater. Pallbearers were Michael Hemenway, Jason Hemenway, Paul Hemenway, JJ Hemenway, Andrew Hemenway, Nick Hemenway, and Colby Maeys. Visitation was 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home. Mr. Hemenway passed away Friday, January 14, 2011 at his home in Clearwater.
Lorraine Patras Hemenway was born on July 18, 1926 to Oscar and Bessie (Patras) Hemenway north of Clearwater. In 1942 his family moved to California but Lorraine didn't like California so he moved back to Clearwater and graduated from Clearwater High School with the class of 1943. After graduating he enlisted in the United State Navy on May 25, 1944 in California. He served in WWII and was discharged on July 19, 1945. Lorraine came back to Clearwater and on May 29, 1946 he was united into marriage to Phyllis Griffith in Madison, Ne. After getting married Lorraine and Phyllis lived in Clearwater for 10 years and Fremont for 25 years. In 1981 they decided to move back to Clearwater and built their home. He did carpentry work all his life. Lorraine would travel around building different projects including a church in Denison, IA, a bank in Syracuse, Ne, and an addition on a school in Seward, as the construction supervisor. Lorraine liked to put together model airplanes and then going out to fly them. He loved to build anything. He was a member of the Clearwater American Legion Post #267 and United Methodist Church in Clearwater. He was a very kind of loving person and was a friend to everyone.
He is survived by his wife, Sons: Jack and wife, Glenda Hemenway of Mt. Morris, MO, Gary and wife, Gail Hemenway of Olathe, KS, and Ronald and wife, Suzanne Hemenway of Lincoln, NE. 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many cousins and a host of nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Duard and wife, Lois Hemenway and Ronald and wife, Wilma Hemenway.
