Leora R. Bennett was born on May 17, 1927 at Clearwater, Nebraska to William and Selma (Whitwer) Sanne. Her faith guided her throughout her life beginning with her baptism on June 12, 1927 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Tilden, Nebraska and then through her confirmation on April 13, 1941 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Clearwater, Nebraska. Leora was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Leora married Charles Bennett on July 17, 1945 at Concordia Lutheran Church in Clearwater.
The first years of their marriage were spent in San Diego, California while Charles was in the United States Navy. They moved back to Antelope County after the service, and were blessed with three children: Robert, Kathleen, and Stanley. In 1953, they moved to
a section of land north of Neligh where Leora worked beside Charles for 35 years on what would become Bennett Turkey Farms. Celebrating with family with her roast turkeys was one of her greatest joys in life. Being able to supply fresh turkeys for the holidays was her contribution to the community she so dearly loved. Leora and Charles enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and flying with friends to remote lakes in Canada to go hunting and fishing. One of these trips yielded a lake trout catch she so proudly displayed.
Left to mourn are her children: Robert “Bob” and Bev Bennett of Neligh; Kathy Heckert of Neligh; and Stanley Bennett of Lincoln/Florida. Her eight grandchildren: Stephanie (Gary) Becker of Omaha; Kari Guthrie of Lincoln; Jami (OJ) Utter of Florida; Melissa (Craig) Smith of Neligh; Dr. Wende Heckert of Norfolk; Cory (Cedrela) Bennett of Neligh; Cody (Carrie) Bennett of Colorado; and Craig (Lia) Heckert of Neligh. Leora was also blessed with 19 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Resting in their Eternal Home are family members: husband Charles in 1980; parents William and Selma Sanne; son-in-law Ralph W. Heckert; daughter-in-law Linda Bennett; parents-in-law Charley and Ruth Bennett; brothers Avalt (Lorraine) Sanne; Adolph (Carolyn) Sanne; Harold (Lettie) Sanne; sisters Adelle (Henry) Ziems; Helen (Walter) Menebroker; and Evelyn (Walter) Lange; and sisters-in-law Dorothy (Jim) Tinsley; Lena (Lyle) Miller; Gladys (Leonard) Bennett; and Darlene (Bud) Dietz.
