Funeral Services for John D. Thompson age 87 of Clearwater, NE will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 11, 2017 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater, NE with Pastor Paul Dittmer. Burial will be in Clearwater Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Clearwater Legion Post #267 and Sons of American Legion. Visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, January 10, 2017 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home. John D. passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh. Condolences may be directed to the family at www.snidermemorialfh.com John Daniel Thompson was born to Paul and Violet Thompson on January 24, 1929 at Clearwater, Nebraska. He attended country School District #21 and graduated from Clearwater High School with the Class of 1946. John D enlisted in the United States Army on April 24, 1951 at Omaha, NE and served in the Korean War , he was discharged on April 9, 1953 at Camp Carson, CO. On April 28, 1957; he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Cooper at Orchard, Nebraska. He worked for the US Postal service and was a farmer/rancher. He retired from the Postal service in 1985. He sold his cows in 1991. He enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards gin rummy was his favorite, Traveling and a trip to Alaska. He was always willing to help others and was known for his one line wise cracks. John D loved working the Clearwater Big Rodeo where he would help at the unsaddling chute. He was a member of the Clearwater Fire Department, Neligh VFW Post #5287, and Clearwater Legion Post #267.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Norfolk, NE. Brother Doyle and Jean Thompson of Arvada, CO and sister, Norma and Gene Lundquist of Neligh, NE. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
