Herbert Delmont Wattles Funeral Services for Herbert Wattles, age 79 of Clearwater were 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home of Clearwater with Pastor Carroll Plisek, Officiating. Music was provided by Carol Thiele, Organist and Bob Kester, Soloist. Pallbearer were Grandsons; Ryan Kuester, Jimmy Kuester, Derek Zarella, Landen Brand, Aaron Kruger, and Eric Kruger. Honorary Pallbearers were Grand Daughters; Shera Kuester, Michelle Kuester, Cammie Zarella, Kala Kruger, and Ebony Zarello. Burial was in the Clearwater Cemetery with Military Rites by the Clearwater American Legion Post #267. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater.

Herbert Delmont Wattles the son of Albert and Nellie (Welch) Wattles was born on December 18, 1929 at North Loup, Nebraska. He graduated from Friend High School in 1949. He entered the US Army in 1951 serving at Fort Knox Kentucky. He was sent to Camp Kilmer, New Jersey then to Germany. He was discharged in October 1953. After being discharged from the army he got a job at Burlington Northern Railroad and worked with the railroad up until his marriage to Rena M. Klabenes on October 21, 1956 at the United Methodist Church in Neligh Nebraska. To this union they had three children Carla, Pat, and Peg. They lived on a farm east of Oakdale until they moved to Clearwater in October of 1966. After moving to Clearwater he worked at the trailer factory and the co-op plus many other jobs. While living in Clearwater he was a member of the American Legion Post 267 as well as a volunteer fireman. He was baptized on January 20, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Clearwater Nebraska. He lived in Clearwater until health problems forced him to move to the Veterans Home in Grand Island in July 2009 where he lived until his death on August 29, 2009. He will always be remembered for his starched cap, illustrious words and his laugh, smile and blue eyes. He was also an avid bowler with his team winning numerous trophies. Another thing he loved was going downtown to have coffee and chewing the fat with the local guys.
He is survived by his wife Rena of Clearwater, daughters Carla Kuester and husband Dan of Norfolk, Pat Brand of Norfolk, and Peggy McKillip and husband Jan of Kearney. Grandchildren Shera Kuester, Ryan Kuester and wife Andrea, Jim Kuester and wife Kate, and Michelle Kuester, Derek Zarello and wife Jen, Cammie Zarello, Landon Brand, Aaron, Kala, and Eric Kruger, and 1 great granddaughter Ebony Zarello. Step grandchildren Jessica and Travis McKillip and 1 step great grandchild Clayton McKillip. Three brothers Jake and Al of Lincoln, Bob of California, and 1 sister Bethine Leif of Exeter.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 2 sister, 1 son-in-law, 2 grandsons, and 1 great grandson.
