Funeral services for George R. Hemenway, age 89, of Clearwater, NE will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at St. John the Baptist Church in rural Clearwater with Father John Norman and Father James Kramper, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in rural Clearwater, NE with Military Rites conducted by Clearwater American Legion Post #267. Visitation will be Monday, April 15, 2019 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in rural Clearwater with 7:00 p.m. rosary. George passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at his home. George R. Hemenway (Ronnie) was born on February 7, 1930 to Dallas G. and Kathryn (Borgelt) Hemenway in rural Ewing. At the age of 10 his family moved to rural Orchard. He graduated from Orchard High School in 1947. In 1951 he married Mildred G. Thiele. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1952, serving in Germany during the Korean War. While on leave, he and his buddies traveled around Europe. He was discharged in 1954. George and Mildred lived and worked on their farm Southwest of Clearwater. They were married for 15 years and were blessed with seven children. Mildred passed away in 1966. In 1968 George married Catherine (Kay) Starman. They farmed and raised cattle; and enjoyed gardening, canning, and traveling. In 1983 they built their new home closer to town. They were married for 49 years when Kay passed away April 11, 2018. George was a long-time member of St. John’s Parish Council and of the Clearwater American Legion. He enjoyed reading, sports, and a competitive game of cards at family gatherings. Farming was his passion as well as spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children Barb (Guy) Beals of Bailey, CO; Bev Anderson of Kathryn, ND; Terry (Trish) Hemenway of Orchard, NE; Tim (Dawna) Hemenway of Clearwater, NE; Donna (Mike) Fancher of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law Kathy Kallhoff of Gainesville, TX; 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Siblings Joe Hemenway, Jim (Margaret) Hemenway, and Mary Pistello. Sister-in-laws Lupe Hemenway and Eleanor Hemenway.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wives, children Dan and Bonnie. Son-in-law Robert Anderson and grandson Cory Hemenway. Brothers Dallas and Dennis; sister Margaret Bucknell; sister-in-law Virginia Hemenway and brother-in-law Mike Pistello.
