Funeral Services for Dean Kimes age 74 of Norfolk, NE were 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2013 at St. Francis Catholic Church with Father John Broheimer, Officiating. Music was provided by Jane Ruterbories, Organist. Heather Johnson, Jessica Colbeck and Loren Colbeck, Soloist. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery in Elgin, NE. Pallbearers were Ray Branstiter, Kenn Capler, Dan Schrage, Monty Filsinger, Brian Hoefer, and Jarryd "Bubba" Good. Visitation was 5 to 7 pm, Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater with a 6:30 Prayer Service with Father James Kramper, Officiating. Dean passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk, Nebraska. Dean Kimes was born on December 27, 1938 at Clearwater, NE to Roy and Hazel (McDonald) Kimes. He attended elementary school in Clearwater and then attended school in Ewing. He graduated with the class of 1957 from Ewing High School. On August 1, 1959 was united in marriage to Phyllis Fritz at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, NE. They lived in Elgin for two years before moving to Neligh. They moved to Battle Creek in 1970 but returned to Neligh the following year. In 2011 he moved to Norfolk and resided at The Madison House. He worked at Sinclair Station when younger and then for Elkhorn Rural Public Power District in Battle Creek and Neligh for 41 years. Dean liked watching old westerns and stock car races. He enjoyed bowling, coaching baseball, and going to high school sporting events. Dean also liked watching college and pro sports, especially Nebraska. He was always there for his children.
Survived by his children, Debra Reeves Coaker of Brookings, SD; Steve and wife, Brenda Kimes of Norfolk, NE; Sherry and husband Terry Good of Tyler, MN; and Pamela and husband Loren Colbeck of Elkton, SD. 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 on the way. A sister, Maurine Filsinger of Fremont, NE. Preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Hazel Kimes. His wife, Phyllis. Sisters: Roycene and her husband Joe Kusik and Barbara Moughan. His brother, Dal Kimes and brother-in-law, Merle Filsinger.
