Memorial Services for Darwin Lewis, age 73 of Clearwater, NE, were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Clearwater, with Father James Kramper. Burial was in Arlington Cemetery in Villisca, IA. Dar passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Omaha, NE. Memorials are suggested to Clearwater American Legion. Darwin Duane Lewis was born on May 26, 1939 on a farm east of Villisca, IA. He was the first child of Lawrence L. and Ruth F. (Frazee) Lewis. Darwin attended Christie and Longbranch country schools and graduated from Villisca High School in 1957. Following graduation, Darwin joined the U.S. Air Force serving four years in several countries, including Turkey, France, England, and Tripoli, Libya. He served in Iowa Nations Guard, Company F, in Villisca for several years and later joined the U.S. Army and fought in several areas of the world, including Korea. Darwin was always very proud of his military career. Darwin enjoyed researching and visiting various historical sites in Nebraska and surrounding states. While in Colorado, he loved to hunt Indian arrowheads and raise chickens. He enjoyed long road trips in his pickup to explore different areas of the southwest and Darwin never met anyone who wasn't his "Buddy". Darwin was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Villisca, Iowa and in Clearwater, Nebraska, where he resided the last 20 years. Darwin is survived by his parents, Lawrence and Ruth Lewis, both residing in the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca, IA; sister, Margaret Spencer and husband, Dale, of rural Villisca, IA; brothers, Roger Lewis and wife Evelyn, of Indianola, IA; Lawrence (Bernie) Lewis and wife Gail, of Erie, CO,; special friend, Carol Haake of Clearwater, NE and many nieces and nephews, and friends.
