Cheryl was born on September 12,1948, to Vernon and Frances (Weyhrich) Brummels in Osmond, Nebraska. She grew up on a farm northeast of Randolph where she attended District 115, Prospect Hill Country School and eventually graduated from Randolph Public High School with the Class of 1966. Majoring in English with a minor in history, Cheryl received a Bachelor of Arts from Kearney State College in 1975 and in 1995 her Masters of Science in Education from Wayne State College.

After a brief time living in Colorado, Cheryl moved back to Nebraska. On August 28,1971, she was united in marriage to Gary Anthony Meier. To this marriage three daughters were born, Catherine, Rebecca, and Rachael. They moved to Orchard in 1978 where Cheryl started her teaching career at Orchard Public School. In 1992 she went on to teach at Wayne State College for nearly twenty-five years. Cheryl and Gary remained in Orchard through their lives where they enjoyed raising their family, restoring their beautiful, old home, and spending precious time making memories with their grandchildren.

Cheryl was passionate about her writing, finding great joy in imagining stories and working on her manuscripts. She also found pleasure in sewing, quilting, gardening, and taking walks. Those who knew her remember her as someone who was a good listener, someone you could confide in, and always someone you could go to for advice or a helping hand.

Cheryl’s faith was a deep and abiding constant that carried her through her life. She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Orchard from the time they moved to town until 2013 when she became a member of her parents’ and grandparents’ home church Concordia Lutheran in Clearwater. In addition to Ladies’ Aid, Cheryl served as the secretary and treasurer there over the years.

Cheryl is survived by her daughters: Catherine Meier (Chris O’Brien) of Finland, MN; Rebecca (Kurt) Bravo of Ft. Pierce, FL; Rachael (Mike) Barlow of Ewing, NE; eight grandchildren: Dylan and Cedar O’Brien, Riley Montgomery, Hannah and Chase Bravo, and Jack, Tessa, and Kate Barlow; Cheryl’s mother Frances Brummels of Ewing, NE; Brothers: Gary (Lynn) Brummels of Waukee, IA; Jim Brummels of Wayne, NE; Rod (Jane) Brummels of Osmond, NE; Roger (Lori) Brummels of Norfolk, NE; Ed (Sandy) Brummels of Osmond, NE; Dan (Jo) Brummels of Ewing, NE; sister-in-laws Lin Brummels of Winside, NE; sister-in-laws Connie Tufte of Hermosa, SD, and Rhonda (Brad) Kobold of Sergeant Bluff, IA; and brother-in-law Dennis Meier of  Durham,NC; and many nieces and nephews.
