Funeral Services for Charles P. Arkfeld age 63 of Neligh, NE were 10:30 Monday, December 5, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church at Neligh, NE with Father Christopher Onuoha, Officiating. Music was provided by Jane Ruterboires and Natalie Bitney. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Battle Creek, Ne. Pallbearers were Rick Arkfeld, Bill Arkfeld, Lawrence Walz III, Lawrence "Buddy" Walz IV, Kevin Thornburg, Donald Dissmeyer, Lonnie Petrzilka, and Milo Petrzilka. Visitation was from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Sunday, December 4, 2016 at St. Francis Catholic Church with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Service at church. Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home of Neligh is handling the arrangements. Chuck passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, NE. In Lieu of flowers memorials to family to be designated at a later date. Charles P. Arkfeld was born August 8, 1953 at Lincoln, to John and Phyllis (Rehmus) Arkfeld. He grew up in the Lincoln Catholic school system and graduated from Lincoln East High School in 1972. He was a two-time Lincoln All-City baseball player. He played baseball while attending John F. Kennedy College in Wahoo and was also a player and later manager for the Johnny's semipro baseball team Lincoln during the 1970s.
On February 26, 1983 he was united in marriage to DeLori R. Thimgan at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Lincoln. They worked at the Arkfeld family restaurant, Johnny's Drive-In, in Havelock before owning and operating Arkfeld Carpet Cleaning. They raised their family in the communities of Battle Creek, Shelby and Neligh. Chuck had a love for playing and watching sports. He especially enjoyed watching and coaching his children's teams as well as cheering on nieces, nephews, cousins, his grandchildren and all of the different Husker teams. He coached several different sports teams throughout his years in Shelby and coached the Neligh Legion Baseball team in the mid-2000s. He was a lifelong fan of baseball and devoted fan of the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping trips with his family. He was an active member in the Catholic church and a former CCD teacher.
He is survived by his wife, DeLori of, Neligh; children, DeManda (Chet) McGowen of Neligh, MeLinda (Chris) Cromer of Shelby, Jacob Arkfeld of Hastings and Kortney Arkfeld of Neligh; grandchildren, Ian, Haezlyn, and Mya McGowen and Paxton, Ridley and Fletcher Cromer; siblings, Joyce (Denny) Boyce, Bob Arkfeld, Doug (Aida) Arkfeld, Ted (Dianne) Arkfeld and Susie (Steve) Gordon; in-laws, Tim and Loretta Thimgan of Lincoln and several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
