Funeral Services for Catherine Kurpgeweit, age 81 of Rural Ewing, Ne were 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Orchard, NE with Pastor Marcel Kohlmeyer, Officiating. Music was provided by Lynae Stelling. Pallbearers were Larry Miller, Mark Jones, Tom Keown, Bruce Kathol, Jeff Vackiner, and Russ Sawyer. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation was a hour prior to funeral service at the church. Catherine passed away on September 9, 2014 at Antelope Memorial Hospital in Neligh, NE. Snider Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Barbara "Catherine" Kurpgeweit was born on December 3, 1932 to Martin and Barbara Helmricks at rural Orchard, NE. She attended school in Ewing and graduated with the class of 1950 from Ewing High School. On January 1, 1953 she was united in marriage to Eugene Kurpgeweit at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Orchard. They lived in Ft. Knox, KY after Eugene returned from Korea. They spent their whole married life South of Ewing where she worked alongside her husband on the family farm. They were members of Concordia Lutheran Church of Clearwater, NE. They had been married 40 years at the time Eugene passed away in 1993. In 2001, she moved to Orchard. In 2011, she moved to Neligh to The Willows then later moved to Golden Living Center. She belonged to Ewing American Legion Auxiliary Unit 214, TOPS, sat on Election Board, ladies aid, and various Bible Study groups. She liked gardening, reading, singing, NPR Radio, Educational TV, drinking coffee and arguing politics with the neighborhood guys. She kept a diary every single day of her life. She is survived by her children: Beth Kurpgeweit and Larry Miller of Lincoln, NE, Bill and Linda Kurpgeweit of Ewing, NE, Susan and Mark Jones of Bella Vista, AR, Joan and Tom Keown of Omaha, NE, Luann and Bruce Kathol of Flippin, AR, and Jean and Jeff Vackiner of Cody, NE. 18 grandchildren and many many great grandchildren. Sister: Edith and Wayne Sawyer of Grand Island, NE. Preceded in death by parents; husband; son, Greg; granddaughter, Elizabeth Stacie Jones; sisters: Lynette, Laura Louise.
