Funeral Services for Carsten Allen Petersen, age 78 of Tucson, AZ, formally of Neligh, NE will be 10:30 am, Monday, October 26, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Neligh, with Pastor David Kuhfal, Officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Neligh American Legion post #172. Visitation will be 3 to 5 Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home in Neligh, Ne. Allen passed away on October 19, 2015 at the Southern Arizona VA hospital surrounded by his family. In lieu of flowers memorials can go to Southern Arizona VA, Cancer Research and Grace Lutheran Organ fund. Carsten (Allen) Petersen was born on April 12, 1937 in Burley, Idaho to Hans and Althea (Posson) Petersen. He graduated from Ewing High school in 1956 and went to California with a friend seeking work. In 1956, he enlisted in the U S Navy in San Diego. He was stationed at Norfolk, VA where he spent 3 ½ years on the USS William M. Wood (destroyer) taking several Mediatarian Cruises. He was discharged in 1960 and returned to Grand Island, NE. In 1961, he was united in marriage to Lois Sanne at Yankton, SD. They moved to Neligh, NE where he trained in construction with Mervin Jacobsen and Ron Helmer. To this marriage they had 3 children Rhonda, Rita, and Clifford. He worked as a foreman of manufactured homes in Neligh and Grand Island. In 1971-1985, he was a Standard Oil Jobber serving the surrounding areas. In 1991, he started CAPco remodeling framing and specializing in cabinet making. In 2013, he and his wife retired and became full time RV'ers. They loved traveling and meeting new people and spending more time with their families. He was an active member of the Neligh Lions Club for 35 years and was known as the pancake man. He was a member of the Pierson Museum board and traveled to many events with their Sensory Trailer. Also was a member of the Neligh American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of 54 years. Children: Rhonda (Kamal) Madi of Tucson, AZ, Rita Callaway of Oxnard, CA, and Clifford (Joy) Petersen of San Clemente, CA. 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A sister, Marietta (Lonny) Miller of Norfolk, NE, and Brother-in-Law, Merrell Forslund of O'Neill, NE.
Allen is preceded in death by his parents, brother Elwood Petersen, Sister Tamzan Forslund , Half sister, Avis and Nephew Phillip Forslund.
