Alys Adene (Stelling) Kruger was born February 20, 1931 to Henry and Isabella (Wegner) Stelling in Ewing, NE. She was baptized March 8, 1931 at St. Peters Lutheran Church near Orchard. She was confirmed at the same church on May 28, 1944 by Rev. Wirth. She grew up near Page, later moving to Orchard. After graduating from Orchard High School in 1947, she spent three years teaching in rural schools. Alys was united in marriage to William Kruger Jr. on June 4, 1950 at St. Peters Lutheran Church. They farmed south of Orchard until a tornado destroyed their family home and farm buildings in 1965. They then moved north of Clearwater where they built a new home. A new dairy barn was built and they began a dairy operation which ran until 2003. Alys was a member of Concordia Ladies Aide and belonged to the local birthday club. She enjoyed making her own greeting cards which usually were accompanied by a hand written letter. The beautiful flowers surrounding her home were a sign of her devotion to gardening.
Alys is survived by her daughters Janette (Charlie) Allemang of Clearwater, Karla (Boyd) Sullivan of Omaha, Kimberly Hesse of Valentine, sons William Kruger III and special friend Jeanette Bearinger, and Kenneth Kruger of Clearwater; daughter-in-law Peg (Jan) McKillip of Kearney; seventeen grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Loretta Foote of Orchard, Mary Wilkinson of Clearwater, brother Richard (Darlene) Stelling of Orchard, and brother-in-law Delmar (Arlene) Pfanstiel of McLean along with numerous extended family and friends.
