Arrangements are being conducted by Beyer Snider Memorial Funeral Home of Neligh. Elaine Fallesen Schrader, daughter of Pete and Anna (Hansen) Fallesen was born on April 2, 1923 on a farm 7 miles east of Neligh. At age 2, her parents and 2 brothers moved to a home of their own located 4 miles east of Neligh. She attended rural school at New England Valley Dist #15, graduating from Neligh High School in 1939. Her first employment was as a live-in babysitter and mothers helper with a weekly wage of $3. After World War II was declared, job opportunities elsewhere seemed so enticing, that is when she made the decision to go west. So in July, 1942, a ride by car was arranged and 5 days and 5 flats later the destination, Los Angles, was reached. Here women were already filling the many vacancies in defense work left by young men who had been called into service for their country. Her brother, Clarence was already employed at Lockheed Aircraft, helping build the P38 fighter planes used to escort the B24 bombers that flew over enemy territory. What better place to seek employment where her brother, Wayne, would soon be flying on those bombing missions over Germany. So with lunch bucket and tool box in hand, Elaine joined the working women of the war and also became an employee at Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank, CA as a crane operator. In 1945, with the end of the war in sight, Elaine was employed at the Security 1st National Bank of Hollywood, in the bookkeeping department. She returned to Neligh in 1946 and in 1947 was employed at the JC Penney Co. as a clerk and later in that year was a bookkeeper-teller at the National Bank of Neligh. She terminated that position in Sept. 1950 when she was united in marriage to Thomas Schrader in Neligh. They moved to the farm located 4 1/2 miles northeast of Neligh. To this marriage there were 3 children, Arlee Marie, Luanne Kay, and David Charles.
Elaine is a member of the United Methodist Church, serviced the #72 rural school board, former member of the VFW Auxiliary, and Ceres Extension Club. She served on the township election board for Custer township but most of all she enjoyed "just being a Housewife, Mother and Grandmother." She is survived by her children Arlee and Jim Schaefer of Columbus, NE, Luann and Mark Boche of Norfolk, Ne, and David and Lori Schrader of Neligh, NE. 8 grandchildren, Matt and Michael Schaefer, Joe and Nicole (Schaefer) Everingham, Jason Boche, Brian and Alyssa Boche, Scott, Heather, and Annie Schrader. 3 great grandchildren Kenzie Everingham, and twins, Lydia and Ellyse Boche. Sister-in-law, Velva Fallesen of Neligh, Ne. Brother-in-law, Dick Schrader of CA. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Clarence and Wayne.
